Candidate roundup for Farragut voting NEW UPDATES

In future posts I will give my recommendations and my analysis of the best candidates for local public office. For now I want to give you as much information as I can so you can learn about the candidates for public office.

Candidate website has been added for Thomas Deakins. Radio interviews have been added for Craig Leuthold and Kyle Phillips. Knoxville News Sentinel Blogs added for Randy Sadler and Kyle Phillips. Podcast added for Lee Martin. John Griess will be removed from the ballot due to term limits.

Any candidate may email me at Farragut_Republican@yahoo.com and enclose a bio and platform, limit is 500 words. I will post these in separate posts here on Can Farragut Change. If you know of a candidate website that is not listed please email me or leave it in the comments section.

I heard Leuthold on the radio this morning. He said the State put the foot down and would only allow a roundabout at northshore and Concord. No stop signs, not traffic light, no nothing but a roundabout.

Does he think anybody believes that crap?

I heard the radio and it was confusing. No way the State would make an ultimatum like that. Leuthold spoke some about the 80% the State pays. I thought he could have been saying Knox County would have to pay for the traffic light but the State would pay 80% of the roundabout. When he was trying to defend the decision he talked about moving vans and big boat trailers. The more he talked the worse the roundabout sounds. I hadn't even thought about moving vans or firetrucks. He sounded weak and confused.

The radio interview with Craig Leuthold and Lloyd Daugherty is now linked on the front page. Below is the part where Craig Leuthold says the State required the roundabout for Northshore Drive and Concord Road. I am investigating this with the State. More later...

Radio interview transcript:

Craig Leuthold said, “When the State comes in and says this is what we're willing to do, this is we want to do with this intersection the County can’t say we want you to put a stop signs we want you to put in a stop light.”

Caller said, “Are you saying that the State said it’s a roundabout or nothing? And this came from the State and there was no other alternative.”

Craig Leuthold said, “Yes Sir I am.”

The state does not dictate how to control traffic at a low traffic intersection like Northshore at Concord. Leuthold is lying. I can't imagine two more stop signs would cost more than a few hundred dollars. So Leuthold thought it would be better to spend $500,000? On his mailbox flyer the last item says:

STRONG FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Don't forget this commissioner proposed the property tax after the wheel tax referendum. We do not need any more tax happy county commissioners. Let's kick this one to the curb.

I am much more upset about the way Leuthold blackmailed the county with his property tax motion in county commission after the wheel tax referendum. He went up to Mike Ragsdale three times in that county commission meeting so he could say it just right. he is just Ragsdale's water boy. Besides, Kyle Phillips lives in Farragut. Leuthold lives in the Bluegrass area. Leuthold was out of touch on the wheel tax, the property tax, and the roundabout. Vote him out.

Do you think Thomas Deakins will get the Endorsement of the KNS now? The last 11 minutes must be listened to as the Editor thought the recorder was off. Lee Martin says great things about Deakins but the Editor likes Lee and listen to them mention Mike Edwards and the famous, I should have asked you that question! Smells fishy to me folks!

I always vote against whoever the Knoxville News Sentinel endorses. McElroy works for Jim Haslam.

In the KNS interview, Lee Martin refers to a friend (on two occasions) who encouraged him to run for school board. The question that I was waiting for them to ask was, "What is the name of the good friend who encouraged you to run for school board?" Could the first name be Mike and the last name end with "dale"?

The changes Lee Martin wants to make are to turn public schools into private schools. Is that why Martin's children go to private schools? Public schools must obey many State and Federal laws that Martin seems to not understand. Ask a schoolteacher or principal about Martin's unique ideas. They will tell you they cannot be done because of the laws and regulations governing schools and that these ideas are not workable in public schools. Martin has no understanding of the public school budget. We cannot afford Lee Martin on school board. He talks a good game but yet his children do not go to public schools. This is hypocritical to say the least. He should be on the Board of Directors at Webb School if he feels the need to involve himself in education.
